[2018/06/21 12:08] Sheila Yoshikawa: I am moderating today, and Maggie Larimore is presenting about VWMOOC 2018
[2018/06/21 12:09] Sheila Yoshikawa: Letโ€™s start as we normally do and introduce ourselves. As usual we will be in text chat for the whole session.
[2018/06/21 12:09] Sheila Yoshikawa: I teach and research in the Information School at the University of Sheffield, UK
[2018/06/21 12:09] Sheila Yoshikawa: Hi Marly, just at introductions

It would be somewhat like library service, a multimedia service, and a student coach in one (portable) computer.
[2018/06/21 12:10] Maggie Larimore: Maggie Larimore, only Psych Prof Adjunct at Northcentral University, co-organizer of the Virtual Worlds MOOC, and one of the managers of the Chilbo Community educational spaces

[2018/06/21 12:13] Sheila Yoshikawa: we will move on to the topic of today
[2018/06/21 12:13] Sheila Yoshikawa: which is VW MOOC 2018
[2018/06/21 12:13] Sheila Yoshikawa: and Maggie has come along to tell us some more about it
[2018/06/21 12:13] Sheila Yoshikawa: over to you Maggie
[2018/06/21 12:13] Sheila Yoshikawa: you are using text I think?
[2018/06/21 12:13] Maggie Larimore: Okay just a sec, I want to move the VWMOOC info board into the middle
[2018/06/21 12:13] Maggie Larimore: yep in text
[2018/06/21 12:14] Sheila Yoshikawa: (I have my sound muted to avoid the dalek noise)
[2018/06/21 12:14] Sheila Yoshikawa: so I need to know whether I should unmute
[2018/06/21 12:14] Maggie Larimore: Sheila can you move the board in for me it’s behind you.
[2018/06/21 12:14] Maggie Larimore: As you probably know the VWMOOC series used to be called Second Life Mooc. It was started by Nellie Deutsch (Nellie Homewood in SL) and Doris Molero (Pionia Destiny in SL) in 2014. Kip Boahn, Tom Hodgers and a number of others have been involved as organizers. I started as a student in the 2014 version and because Nellie and I have been friends for almost a decade, I had experience helping out moderating her conferences, doing preparation, and then set up her building in the Madhupak sim which is part of the Chilbo Community. So I had the opportunity to help out.
[2018/06/21 12:14] Sheila Yoshikawa: like that?
[2018/06/21 12:14] Maggie Larimore: Thanks, perfect
[2018/06/21 12:15] Maggie Larimore: Before I go on if you touch the board you will get all the links that are relevant to the course and I’ll mention then as I go over the course as well as put some of the links in the text. So here we go
[2018/06/21 12:15] Maggie Larimore: I became a co-organize in 2015, and have participated in 2016 and 2017 and now am part of the planning team for 2018. We’ve kind of walked around the calendar a bit and this year’s VWMOOC is taking place from August 1st through August 31st.
[2018/06/21 12:16] Maggie Larimore: co-organizer, I meant to say …. ๐Ÿ˜‰
[2018/06/21 12:16] Valentin Glushko (1045982): Dang, I just sold some land in Chilbo
[2018/06/21 12:16] Maggie Larimore: As always Virtual Worlds MOOC is a multi-platform course. Nellie develops a companion course on her Moodle installation at Moodle4Teachers.org. The direct link is https://moodle4teachers.org/enrol/index.php?id=114 and you can sign up to be a participant at any time. The Moodle installation not only provides additional discussion space for students who are participating in inworld tours, workshops, presentations, social events and discussion forums, but also allows individuals who can’t get into virtual worlds because of the age, capacity or power of the devices they have at hand.
[2018/06/21 12:16] Maggie Larimore: In the Moodle installation, students can have access to the Google docs — presenters’ biographies, additional readings, the schedules, the majority of the videos usually uploaded within 24 hours, any presentations or screen sharing views of the inworld course that happen on the WizIQ.com platform, and weekly assignments that once finished are rewarded with badges, and a place to submit a reflection on the course as a whole for a certificate.
[2018/06/21 12:17] Marly (marly.milena): Uh oh, I crashed
[2018/06/21 12:17] Maggie Larimore: not to worry!
[2018/06/21 12:17] Sheila Yoshikawa: wb
[2018/06/21 12:17] Maggie Larimore: The course itself is free and all platforms either have free memberships available or are free for participants to use briefly, and if not, then at least view through the videos. In Second Life MOOC in 2014, more than 800 people signed up for the Moodle portion of the course, and while the numbers of participants on Moodle have not been as large since then, there is an active group of students, teachers, professors, and others on the Moodle, with many also active in the virtual world portion of the course.
[2018/06/21 12:17] Sheila Yoshikawa: it must be the daleks
[2018/06/21 12:17] Maggie Larimore: LOL
[2018/06/21 12:17] Maggie Larimore: Our inworld headquarters in Second Life is located at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Madhupak/106/89/63
If you venture over there, you will find the info board with links to all the videos from past courses, the current schedule so far for this year, the notecard taker mailbox where you can drop your questions and comments, and the joiner board for the VWMOOC group. If you joined the SLMOOC on WIZIQ from previous years we are slowing sending invitations to all those folks to join the new group, and will close out that old group before August. The VWMOOC group is really worth because we do all our noticing through that group, as well as a number of other groups, with the VWMOOC group being the most important.
[2018/06/21 12:18] Sheila Yoshikawa: a great resource in itself, then!
[2018/06/21 12:18] Wisdomseeker (lissena): can we switch over now to the new group and leave the old one?
[2018/06/21 12:18] Maggie Larimore: the VWMOOC group is really worth it, I meant to. But as always as the course goes on we’ll be sending out notices everywhere and leaning on friends like Beth Ghostraven the amazing communication maven of SL education to help us get the word out as well
[2018/06/21 12:19] Maggie Larimore: Sure Liss, we’re actually going slowly through the SLMOOC group as I said, so that would be great.
[2018/06/21 12:19] Maggie Larimore: We have a Google doc set up with the schedule. Every day of August has a line on the chart and potential presenters, workshop runners, folks who are setting up tours of their installations can find a day that works for them, give us information on the presenters, post photos real world and/or virtual world avatars, times, days, title, description and landmarks or URLS. The sign up Google doc is located here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dVtIha1-P1t6t7GEFjzGYd8aegU_OVzRQM-BHzxYwNg/edit?usp=sharing
[2018/06/21 12:19] Maggie Larimore: If you aren’t on the editing list for that doc, Just email nellie.deutsch@gmail.com or nancy@theazire.org and we’ll get you set up to edit. If you send us your info, we can also post it to the Google doc for you. That Google doc will be the basis of the Google calendar that we’ll set up and maintain throughout the course, with all upcoming activities listed on a Google calendar board and in the wall boards we set up with landmarks, the biographies of the presenters, the location of the events, and the time and date, with the time in Eastern and SLT time.
[2018/06/21 12:20] Maggie Larimore: If you were a faculty member in previous iterations of the course, Nellie’s been trying to move all those permissions over.
[2018/06/21 12:20] Maggie Larimore: But if somebody get’s missed, just let us know and we’ll get that taken care of.
[2018/06/21 12:20] Maggie Larimore: So I wanted to do a run down of the folks we have signed up so far.
[2018/06/21 12:20] Maggie Larimore: When I say that a day is free that means that nothing is schedule AS YET ๐Ÿ™‚ for that day
[2018/06/21 12:21] Valentin Glushko (1045982): Nice
[2018/06/21 12:21] Maggie Larimore: And I will be plugging in (I hope) make and take workshops and VW skills workshops this year, as well as discussion forums in the Meeting Tree in Madhupak, and on Digiworldz and around the SL grid as well

[2018/06/21 12:26] Sheila Yoshikawa: nice to get the intersections with different educator communities
[2018/06/21 12:26] Marly (marly.milena): Does anyone else hear weird audio faintly in the background?
[2018/06/21 12:26] Sheila Yoshikawa: yes daleks
[2018/06/21 12:26] Maggie Larimore: Right in many cases the Google doc already has the descriptions of the events, people are just signing up so the full information is not up there as yet
[2018/06/21 12:26] Maggie Larimore: Eugenia Calderon, Lyr Lobo, Brant Knutzen have expressed an intention to join the faculty for this year, but haven’t chosen a date yet, and Norma Underwood has offered to help us with the build out of the VWMOOC Display land where presenters can set up giver boxes and their PowerPoints, all of which will be available until the next course.
[2018/06/21 12:26] Sheila Yoshikawa: I don’t know how or why and as I am not the land owner I can’t eject things anyway
[2018/06/21 12:26] Sheila Yoshikawa: unfortunately
[2018/06/21 12:27] ThinkererSelby Evans (thinkerer.melville): Visit to a web-world. Why a MOOC is better than a conference. https://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2017/08/2017-edu-ww-tech-generation-visit-to.html
[2018/06/21 12:27] Maggie Larimore: And at the moment Joyce Bettencourt is hanging around the Google doc, so I’m hoping she’s going to sign up as well
[2018/06/21 12:27] Wisdomseeker (lissena): maybe you can get parcel rights here Sheila
[2018/06/21 12:27] Maggie Larimore: If you take a look at the Presentors biography PowerPoint (all of this availble from the links at the top of the Google Doc schedule)
[2018/06/21 12:27] Maggie Larimore: available I meant
[2018/06/21 12:27] Sheila Yoshikawa: I was thinking of signing up for 27 or 28
[2018/06/21 12:28] Maggie Larimore: get in there and save the date, Sheila.
[2018/06/21 12:28] Wisdomseeker (lissena): Hi Quintus
[2018/06/21 12:28] Marly (marly.milena): We had talked about the possibility of having an educatorss panel for one segment. Is that in the works?
[2018/06/21 12:28] Maggie Larimore: I have it open right now and can write you in
[2018/06/21 12:28] QVINTVS PETILIVS SECVNDVS (severusalexander): good evening all
[2018/06/21 12:28] Maggie Larimore: I love that idea, but we haven’t set it up net
[2018/06/21 12:28] Sheila Yoshikawa: @Liss Kali would have to deed the land to the group
[2018/06/21 12:28] Wisdomseeker (lissena): possible?
[2018/06/21 12:28] Maggie Larimore: if anybody wants to do that, that would be great, but otherwise I’ll put it on my list
[2018/06/21 12:28] Wisdomseeker (lissena): she can set permissions then
[2018/06/21 12:29] Maggie Larimore: Anyway on the presenters bio, that’s actually last year’s list of presenters and we’ll be updating and editing that as the event list fleshes out
[2018/06/21 12:29] Marly (marly.milena): I would be willing to be on it but not organize it. I am up to my eyeballs in organizing stuff in my life!
[2018/06/21 12:29] Marly (marly.milena): LOL
[2018/06/21 12:29] Maggie Larimore: but taking a look at that helps get an idea of what usually happens
[2018/06/21 12:29] Sheila Yoshikawa: So shall I just say what I was thinking of doing a session on at the VWMOOC and see if people think it is ok?
[2018/06/21 12:29] Maggie Larimore: not to worry Marly I’ll put it on my list
[2018/06/21 12:30] Maggie Larimore: sure, just because you reserve a spot not doesn’t mean we’ll throw virtual tomatoes at you if you have to change it or back out.
[2018/06/21 12:30] Sheila Yoshikawa: I was aiming to do a session on “My professional practice inside and outside SL”
[2018/06/21 12:30] Maggie Larimore: it’s just better to reserve early and then we can accommodate changes
[2018/06/21 12:30] Maggie Larimore: later on, no problem
[2018/06/21 12:30] Maggie Larimore: we’re very flexible
[2018/06/21 12:30] Maggie Larimore: welcome to everybody who just came in
[2018/06/21 12:30] Marly (marly.milena): Sheila, didn’t you do something like that for one of these meetings?
[2018/06/21 12:31] Maggie Larimore: Val you’re all over the talk, I’ve just put up the schedule into the chat
[2018/06/21 12:31] Maggie Larimore: ummm Sheila do you want me to pop you on the list over thee on the 27th or 28th with that title?
[2018/06/21 12:31] Valibrarian Gregg: great ๐Ÿ™‚ still have a couple ideas to fill in
[2018/06/21 12:31] Maggie Larimore: Lovely!!!
[2018/06/21 12:31] Sheila Yoshikawa: It ties in which an autoethnographic study I’m doing, reflecting on my practice as a coorganiser of VWER in SL, and my practice as an academic in the physical world – also sort of – why am I doing this (in SL) and what am I getting out of it that I don’t get out of the “real job”
[2018/06/21 12:31] Sheila Yoshikawa: @Marly no not exactly
[2018/06/21 12:32] Maggie Larimore: So cool! Sheila that would would be fantastic
[2018/06/21 12:32] Sheila Yoshikawa: perhaps put me in for the 28th then and I will email you a paragraph
[2018/06/21 12:32] Maggie Larimore: grreat
[2018/06/21 12:33] Maggie Larimore: done!
[2018/06/21 12:33] Sheila Yoshikawa: probably something like 12 noon SLT
[2018/06/21 12:33] Maggie Larimore: I think I was saying that we’re not opposed to having more than one event on a single day
[2018/06/21 12:33] Sheila Yoshikawa: @Marly you mentioned an educators panel and Maggie said she’d noted the idea
[2018/06/21 12:33] Sheila Yoshikawa: did we already have some discussion about that? I can’t remember
[2018/06/21 12:33] Maggie Larimore: but get in touch with us first (nellie.deutsch@gmail.com, nancy@theazire.org) so we can make sure we have somebody to film it
[2018/06/21 12:34] Marly (marly.milena): Yes. A bit, But I wasn’t sure it went anywhere ๐Ÿ™‚
[2018/06/21 12:34] Maggie Larimore: and you guys are perfect welcome to film your own segment, we just like to have a copy of that for the playlist (or a link) (the YouTube playlist) and also to put the link in to the Moodle class for those who are doing certificates and/or don’t have the technological stuff to come into virtual worlds
[2018/06/21 12:35] Maggie Larimore: So we are in need of more presentations, volunteers to help run the weekly discussions, forums, students, visitors, workshop proposers, and of course some help with the filming because there were a couple of really important presentations from last year that didn’t make it to the YouTube playlist, like Xenia Bastet’s really wonderful Jefferson dinner. We’re hoping to get out into other worlds, Digiworldz is on the schedule with Eugenia’s tour of Escape and at least one discussion forum on my Teaching and Learning Online space, and of course Val’s tour of 3dwebworldz and perhaps a visit back to Selby’s world as well.
[2018/06/21 12:35] Maggie Larimore: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dVtIha1-P1t6t7GEFjzGYd8aegU_OVzRQM-BHzxYwNg/edit?usp=sharingย The top of the Google doc
[2018/06/21 12:35] Marly (marly.milena): Are there others here who would want to be on a panel? We did one a few years ago re Innovations in Ed, remember? Maybe it was for VWBPE
[2018/06/21 12:35] Maggie Larimore: This is a view link
[2018/06/21 12:35] Valentin Glushko (1045982): So uh, how is this all supposed to help the students tho?
[2018/06/21 12:36] Sheila Yoshikawa: good question to pose, Valentin, always good to keep that in view
[2018/06/21 12:36] Maggie Larimore: students are generally people who are interested in teachng in viritual worlds
[2018/06/21 12:36] Wisdomseeker (lissena): btw–the Chronicle of Higher Education Teaching Newsletter today has a long article about teaching using immersion–” Yale has been encouraging its faculty members to explore the use of immersive reality in teaching.” Not Just for Video Games: Virtual Reality Joins the Classroom
Educators and technologists gather at Yale University to share strategies for using immersive technology as a teaching tool.
[2018/06/21 12:36] Maggie Larimore: the curriculum is set up to show what can be done for education at all levels in virtual wolds
[2018/06/21 12:37] Maggie Larimore: by showcasing what has been done
[2018/06/21 12:37] Maggie Larimore: we also teach a bit of the history of virtual wolds
[2018/06/21 12:37] Maggie Larimore: and skills workshops if we can set them up
[2018/06/21 12:37] Maggie Larimore: we have a backlog of four years of MOOCs of this sort with a wide variety of videos of previous presentations
[2018/06/21 12:37] Wisdomseeker (lissena): what kinds of skills are you thinking of Maggie?
[2018/06/21 12:37] Marly (marly.milena): The students can attend the sessions that sound interesting to them and then see how they want to appy what they learned to their own stidueis or pursuits. There are descriptions of each of the offerings
[2018/06/21 12:37] Maggie Larimore: that highlight builds, inworld research and so on
[2018/06/21 12:38] Sheila Yoshikawa: @Maggie @Marly if the panel was on the 16th at 12 noon we could again have a crossover with VWER
[2018/06/21 12:38] Sheila Yoshikawa: if that is acceptable
[2018/06/21 12:38] Maggie Larimore: some students can obtain certificates through the Moodle portion of the course by participating in weekly discussion forums, and turning in a reflection on at least 10 of the presentations or videos whichever they are able to do
[2018/06/21 12:38] Valibrarian Gregg: excellent idea Sheila- use as many crossovers as possible ๐Ÿ™‚
[2018/06/21 12:38] Marly (marly.milena): studies—jeez, my fingers have their own ideas….
[2018/06/21 12:38] Sheila Yoshikawa: I could chair the session and then we could have suggestions for a main focus and people to be on the panel
[2018/06/21 12:39] Maggie Larimore: we also keep as close to students as possible and provide social events so they can sit and talk with teachers, developers, adult educators who are doing things that spark their interest and/or help them think about things they are interested in doing
[2018/06/21 12:39] Maggie Larimore: Sheila/Marly, great idea, I’m watching the thread
[2018/06/21 12:40] Maggie Larimore: so the VWMOOC serves a number of functions — allowing teachers who want to network to meet people with like ideas
[2018/06/21 12:40] Maggie Larimore: providing students with inspiration and also good advice on what to do what not to do
[2018/06/21 12:40] Valibrarian Gregg: I am compiling a bibliography of articles about education in virtual worlds. Do any of you already have a list you could send to me?
[2018/06/21 12:40] Maggie Larimore: and provide some basic virtual world building skills that can help them begin to thing about setting up lessons for their own students
[2018/06/21 12:40] Marly (marly.milena): @Sheila….just saw your suggestion, Aug 16 for panel coinciding with VWER meeting time. Good!
[2018/06/21 12:41] Sheila Yoshikawa: @Val am having deja vu moment with various people down the years compiling wikis/lists… there was that one that Ellie compiled, but that was several years ago now?
[2018/06/21 12:41] Maggie Larimore: Val the Chilbo Public Library has a book section on the first floor, and I’ll send you the bibliography I’ve been compiling because I really want to put in freely available articles on the 2nd floor of the library.
[2018/06/21 12:41] Maggie Larimore: I’m hoping to include a tour of the Chilbo Library this year
[2018/06/21 12:42] Maggie Larimore: too, and we would love to feature a link to your bibliography as well
[2018/06/21 12:42] Sheila Yoshikawa: Ellie Brewster, don’t know if she is in SL still…..
[2018/06/21 12:42] Marly (marly.milena): Val, we are working on a new film library. One of them is about applying SymMods to education. Maybe that will be ready in time for a showing for VWMOOC
[2018/06/21 12:42] Maggie Larimore: there is also a lot of research out there that’s useful and I like to include that in my overview lecture on the 2nd
[2018/06/21 12:43] Valibrarian Gregg: I can follow up by email regarding a bibliography.
[2018/06/21 12:43] Sheila Yoshikawa: @Maggie you said ” provide social events so they can sit and talk with teachers, developes, adult educators who are doing things that spark their interest” – is that in SL, or on another virtual platform?
[2018/06/21 12:43] Maggie Larimore: I’ve forgotten who asked the question about what students get out it, but great question, do you have a follow up question
[2018/06/21 12:44] Sheila Yoshikawa: it was Valentin
[2018/06/21 12:44] Maggie Larimore: I’m hoping to have at least one informal discussion on my Teaching and Learing Online land in Digiworldz, and also we will meet in Chilbo and probably elsewhere around this grid
[2018/06/21 12:44] Maggie Larimore: thanks Valentin, great question
[2018/06/21 12:45] Maggie Larimore: but we would love to be able to do this in Kitely too (hint hint Val) and were sorry when Camie Rembrandt’s schedule for August changed because we were hoping to her host us for an event in her space on Craftzworld too
[2018/06/21 12:45] Maggie Larimore: We will be touring Escape the Spanish Language Learning build on Digiworldz (right next door to my land) with Eugenia Calderon, and I’m sure she’d let us use one of their great spaces to lounge around and chat as well
[2018/06/21 12:46] Valibrarian Gregg: yes- We hope to share digital citizenship content in Kitely- We have 12 museum rooms up and have room for more. If you already have a slide presentation on a topic that fits within digital citizenship, just let me know and we can get a room for you!
[2018/06/21 12:46] Maggie Larimore: I’m going to put the text of our notecard that’s in the board on the table so those of you who haven’t been in any of the previous Moocs can see some of what we’ve done in the past
[2018/06/21 12:46] Maggie Larimore: Just a sec
[2018/06/21 12:46] ThinkererSelby Evans (thinkerer.melville): I can provide space in Kitely for meetings
[2018/06/21 12:47] Maggie Larimore: Yay!
[2018/06/21 12:47] Maggie Larimore: Thanks.
[2018/06/21 12:47] Valibrarian Gregg: thanks Thinkerer
[2018/06/21 12:47] Sheila Yoshikawa: a rich experience for students. I think
[2018/06/21 12:47] Maggie Larimore: Oh and don’t forget the Facebook Group:
The Facebook Group is available here:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/vwmooc/
[2018/06/21 12:47] ThinkererSelby Evans (thinkerer.melville): I have a sim-sized area available now
[2018/06/21 12:47] Maggie Larimore: For more information on previous years presentations visit these playlists on the Nellie Deutsch YouTube Channel. Each one is a list of videos that include tutorials for the students, and presentations and tours that made up the bulk of the curriculum.

[2018/06/21 12:48] Valibrarian Gregg: Our Aug 19th session at the VWMOOC will be in Kitely- topic Cybersecurity. After the talk, we can tour the museum. So- it would be great if you get info to me soon and your work can be featured at the tour.
[2018/06/21 12:48] Maggie Larimore: Great Thinkerer, let’s talk later that would be great
[2018/06/21 12:48] Maggie Larimore: I just love that we’re getting more Metaversy as the years roll on
[2018/06/21 12:48] Maggie Larimore: ๐Ÿ™‚
[2018/06/21 12:48] ThinkererSelby Evans (thinkerer.melville): ok
[2018/06/21 12:48] Sheila Yoshikawa: just to say @Maggie @Marly I think I am formally proposing the educators panel for 16th August at 12 noon. I will try and get a variety of educators
[2018/06/21 12:48] Valibrarian Gregg: Thinkerer has a room on “Digital Smarts” with links to his blog.
[2018/06/21 12:49] Marly (marly.milena): I don’t know if it has gotten any easier for Mac users to get into Kitely, but it was impossible last time I tried and was supposed to do a program there.
[2018/06/21 12:49] Maggie Larimore: And here’s the Google doc again: The syllabus of the course is available here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1D56c4suwSN4iOCPYD3EyBVGzwdMlz_mVGCwrVT8UDrg/edit?usp=sharing
[2018/06/21 12:49] ThinkererSelby Evans (thinkerer.melville): I can also arrange for space in a web-world for small numbers
[2018/06/21 12:50] Marly (marly.milena): Even Agile Bill couldn’t make it work for me
[2018/06/21 12:51] Valibrarian Gregg: Maggie- would that syllabus link be good to share on social media?
[2018/06/21 12:51] Maggie Larimore: That is a problem, but we’ll have enough events over here too that it should be okay, with other options for Mac users. Has anybody ever heard of problems with Digiworldz?
[2018/06/21 12:51] Sheila Yoshikawa: 10 minutes left!
[2018/06/21 12:51] Maggie Larimore: yes, although we’d like to wait a bit until the schedule is better filled out. The course starts on August 1st, so I’m thinking first week of July maybe? So that I have time to finish up setting up the VWMOOCHQ
[2018/06/21 12:51] ThinkererSelby Evans (thinkerer.melville): Digiworldz is pretty reliable
[2018/06/21 12:51] Sheila Yoshikawa: whispers: I’m wondering if the dalek invasion has anything to do with it being the solstice today, summer solstice in the UK
[2018/06/21 12:51] Marly (marly.milena): I stick to what I can do in SL. Call me a stick-in-the-mud
[2018/06/21 12:52] Maggie Larimore: I had to give up land recently and am reconfiguring the HQ and that end of the Chilbo Welcome Center
[2018/06/21 12:52] Maggie Larimore: so all that’s in the HQ at the moment is the group sign up board, a very of this coming soon board that you can pick up and use on your lands, the mailbox, the underconstuction sign
[2018/06/21 12:52] Maggie Larimore: but hopefully it will be ready to go soon
[2018/06/21 12:52] ThinkererSelby Evans (thinkerer.melville): Kitely is the most reliable grid on opensim, I tink
[2018/06/21 12:53] Maggie Larimore: I had to get another copy of the building, and still need to break out the second floor, and repopulate it
[2018/06/21 12:53] Sheila Yoshikawa: grateful that you are willing to do all that work @Maggie!
[2018/06/21 12:54] Valibrarian Gregg: This VWMOOC will be a great way to collaborate and share what educators can do (and are doing) in virtual worlds. TY
[2018/06/21 12:54] Maggie Larimore: The syllabus is great though especially for students who are thinking about taking the course because it lists what happens for the course as well as providing links to everything else
[2018/06/21 12:54] Maggie Larimore: Nellie had a brainstorm that’s for sure!
[2018/06/21 12:54] Sheila Yoshikawa: any more ideas, clarifications etc?
[2018/06/21 12:54] Sheila Yoshikawa: before we finish?
[2018/06/21 12:54] Valibrarian Gregg: Yes- I won’t post the syllabus til it is filled in…but then start promoting
[2018/06/21 12:55] Maggie Larimore: But she runs at least four other month-long conferences online and has done for many years as well as beiing very very active in the ESL/EFL community
[2018/06/21 12:55] Sheila Yoshikawa: wow
[2018/06/21 12:55] Maggie Larimore: it’s been a real learning experience for me
[2018/06/21 12:55] Maggie Larimore: I just love it
[2018/06/21 12:55] Maggie Larimore: And Pionia is a marvelous mentor as well
[2018/06/21 12:55] Maggie Larimore: she’s not as active this yea because she and her husband are building a new teaching business and she’s very focused on her family and the situation in Venezuela now that she’s living in Argentina
[2018/06/21 12:56] Sheila Yoshikawa: ah
[2018/06/21 12:56] Maggie Larimore: We’re hoping to see her around and she’s doing some drumming up of geat presentations in the back group
[2018/06/21 12:56] Maggie Larimore: Liss is asking about the group
[2018/06/21 12:56] Maggie Larimore: in Sl
[2018/06/21 12:56] Marly (marly.milena): So are we holding Aug 16 for a panel and will you let us know, Maggie, who and what?
[2018/06/21 12:57] Maggie Larimore: I think I set it up as Virtual Worlds Mooc
[2018/06/21 12:57] Maggie Larimore: so we can use it in the future
[2018/06/21 12:57] Maggie Larimore: just a sec
[2018/06/21 12:57] Maggie Larimore: It’s Virtual Worlds MOOC
[2018/06/21 12:57] Sheila Yoshikawa: @Marly @Maggie I volunteer to set up the panel, it sounds like you would like to be on it @Marly?
[2018/06/21 12:58] Maggie Larimore: We didn’t want to get too specific because our past group was sort of made for the first one
[2018/06/21 12:58] Marly (marly.milena): Depends on what the focus is….
[2018/06/21 12:58] Sheila Yoshikawa: I will invite some others with different experience and then put rounds some ideas for a focus
[2018/06/21 12:58] Maggie Larimore: the hashtag this year is specific #VWMOOC or #VWMOOC18
[2018/06/21 12:58] Maggie Larimore: Any other questions folks?
[2018/06/21 12:59] Sheila Yoshikawa: thanks for coming along again Maggie
[2018/06/21 12:59] Maggie Larimore: Sheila did you say 12pm SLT August 16th?
[2018/06/21 12:59] Maggie Larimore: I’ll put that on the list now yes?
[2018/06/21 12:59] Maggie Larimore: did you have a temporary title
[2018/06/21 12:59] Marly (marly.milena): Is everyone here on Twitter, or are you saying that that is the group twitter address, Maggie? I just joined it but rarely use it
[2018/06/21 12:59] Maggie Larimore: and Marly shall I list you too?
[2018/06/21 12:59] Sheila Yoshikawa: @Maggie yes
[2018/06/21 12:59] Maggie Larimore: Right #VWMOOC or #VWMOOC18 for Twitter
[2018/06/21 12:59] Sheila Yoshikawa: and just to say that next week Val is hosting us
[2018/06/21 12:59] Sheila Yoshikawa: do you want to say anything Val?
[2018/06/21 13:00] Valibrarian Gregg: sure! We will visit our SL15B parcel next week
[2018/06/21 13:00] Valibrarian Gregg: as a way to network communities and celebrate work accomplished in SL
[2018/06/21 13:00] Maggie Larimore: Yes OMG their Crystal Library is totally gorgeous!
[2018/06/21 13:00] Sheila Yoshikawa: do you have a slurl @Val?
[2018/06/21 13:00] Valibrarian Gregg: ty Maggie
[2018/06/21 13:00] Marly (marly.milena): Maggie, I am waiting to find out what the focus will be. If it is something like Teaching Inventions or Innovations, then yes. If it is focused on the academic experience, then no
[2018/06/21 13:00] Valibrarian Gregg: yes I will drop now
[2018/06/21 13:01] Maggie Larimore: Thanks Marly
[2018/06/21 13:01] Sheila Yoshikawa: yes so @Maggie just say it’s an educators panel chaired by me for now?
[2018/06/21 13:01] Maggie Larimore: Selby I’ll get back to you and Val too as we get fuller so that we can set up meet-ups in Kitely
[2018/06/21 13:01] ThinkererSelby Evans (thinkerer.melville): ok
[2018/06/21 13:01] Sheila Yoshikawa: thanks @Maggie @Marly
[2018/06/21 13:01] Maggie Larimore: Thanks Val
[2018/06/21 13:02] Valibrarian Gregg: A recent library school graduate build our futuristic library (Crystal Library Cathedral)- which is exciting
[2018/06/21 13:02] Sheila Yoshikawa: So I think that is it for this week!
[2018/06/21 13:02] Maggie Larimore: Thanks Sheila for the opportunity
[2018/06/21 13:02] Valibrarian Gregg: nice to see you all! see you at the MOOC ๐Ÿ™‚
[2018/06/21 13:02] Sheila Yoshikawa: We will aim to make this a dalek-free zone by the time we have our next meeting
